Gourdy’s Pumpkin Run Virtual 5k

Happy Halloween!! 🎃🖤

How does one recap a virtual 5k? Because honestly I’m not sure. 😂 With no pre/post race festivities to talk about (because obviously there were none) this “race” really just felt like any other training run.

I am really glad that I signed up for it though! After not running for two weeks because of a knee injury this was really good motivation to get out the door and run 3.1 miles.

I decided to switch things up a little bit and go to a paved trail not far from where I live. I figured that would be more fun than running around my neighborhood for the 8 millionth time and it definitely was! Plus it was a beautiful day and there was some really nice fall foliage to be seen!

So this trail is like 20 miles long I think, so no loop for me today. I did an out and back which was actually really nice! Coming back from an injury feels a lot more manageable when you get to turn around and start heading back to your car at 1.5 miles into your first run back. 😂

My knee felt alright during this run although I did do quite a bit of walking. But I am thinking I’ll be able to start doing a few short and easy runs every week now so I’m pretty stoked about that!

Once I finished my 5k I immediately took my medal out of its packaging (I never opened it because I didn’t want to see it until I had finished the virtual run) and put it one. Honestly it felt kinda weird. Like I said, this felt just like a normal training run, although I did feel rather accomplished for getting it done.

I’m not gonna lie, I really miss IRL racing. My local running companies have been doing some IRL races over the summer and now into the fall but right now I really don’t want to risk going to one. I don’t want to be the reason we end up with COVID back in the nursing home I work at. Although we are kinda preparing for round two of it…but still. I just don’t feel comfortable doing things like that right now.

And speaking of COVID, is anyone doing anything fun for Halloween? Or are you just hanging out at home? Hahaha my virtual 5k was my Halloween fun for the day. 😂 We bought candy just in case we do get trick-or-treaters but honestly I don’t know if we will. I guess we shall see.

I miss precedented times…

Hahaha anyway, I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!!

My Favorite Spooky Podcasts

In the past year or so I’ve started getting really into podcasts. Like, I’ve listed to a few here and there before but now I actually follow and am very invested in them. Enough so that I’ve even bought merch from one of my all time favorite podcasts! 😂

So since spooky season is officially here I thought I’d share my favorite true crime and paranormal podcasts to help you get into a creepy, festive mood! 🎃🖤

That’s Spooky

Johnny and Tyler are probably two my my favorite human beings ever! And I don’t even know them outside of their podcasts! They are totally the queens of the spooky bitches and I love it!

They just bring such a fun twist on spooky, creepy, and just plain weird stories! And they doing it in such a respectful and inclusive way. It’s pretty darn awesome!! And they’ve also taught me a lot about queer and gay culture and history. Something I never expected to get out of a spooky podcast, but I actually appreciate it a lot! They’ve definitely taught me how to be a better ally.

Hahaha they’re the podcast I bought merch from. I needed to show off my spooky bitch-ness and their enamel pins are the perfect way to do so!

Morbid Podcast

Ash and Alaina are hilarious! But also super smart! Alaina is an autopsy technician and brings a very interesting perspective into some of the cases they cover. The episode she did on what happens after we die is probably one of my favorite podcasts episodes ever, but honestly, a Morbid Podcast episode never disappoints! If you’re into true crime definitely check this one out!

And That’s Why We Drink

This is the podcast that started it all for me!! I wanted to listen to spooky stories and after searching through some podcasts on Spotify And That’s Why We Drink caught my attention! I binged through their existing episodes within a few days and now I look forward to every Sunday just so I can listen to their newest episode!

What I love the most about this particular podcast is that it’s a mix between paranormal and true crime. Em kicks off the podcast by telling a paranormal story followed by Christine who tells a true crime story. It’s a fun combo that is very unique, just like both of the hosts! They are hilarious, kind, inclusive, and all around awesome!

Let’s Get Haunted

Honestly, sometimes this podcast feels like a hot mess, but that’s kinda part of the appeal!

Nat and Ali approach every subject they cover, from the paranormal, aliens, cryptids, and anything weird and unusual, from the standpoint that it is TRUE and it did HAPPEN. Which is just so much fun! If you want to go on a wild ride through spooky stories definitely give this one a listen!

Lore

In this podcast Aaron covers folklore. Stories from the past that have often been passed down throughout generations. Which of course, includes ghost stories!

The thing about Lore is that it isn’t exactly a deep dive into the stories and legends that Aaron talks about. It’s mostly just bite sized pieces to f several stories in each episode of Lore. But it’s enough to be incredibly intriguing and often creepy!

I took this photo in the fall of 2018. It was probably one of the prettiest falls I’ve ever experienced!

Alright! That pretty much covers my favorites although I do listen to quite a few other podcasts. 😂 what are some of your favorite podcasts? Spooky or otherwise! I’m always looking for new things to listen to and would love suggestions!!

Pumpkin Picking 2020

It’s spooky season bitches!!!!!!! 🎃🖤

I mean, it’s pretty much spooky season year round for me, but it’s officially the main event! So obviously I’ve been lightning my fall candles, putting up my Halloween decorations, and baking ALL OF THE PUMPKIN THINGS!

This is my weekend off work (I usually get every other weekend off) so we took advantage of that today and went pumpkin picking!

Guys, there were sooooo many people out there picking apples and pumpkins today. It was kinda crazy! And Of course no one was attempting any kind of social distancing. 🙄 Luckily once we walked away from the main shop area/confession stands there were much fewer people. And it probably helped that we walked to the farthest pumpkin patch in an effort to avoid crowds.

And we were very successful in that! There were only two other families in the patch we went to and we were all spread out pretty far so that was good. Plus it meant I could take my time frolicking among the pumpkins and finding THE MOST perfect ones! Seriously, we found some really awesome pumpkins! I’m pretty darn excited about it!

Maybe we went a little overboard? I’m not sure. 😂 With the seven pumpkins (well, one is a different kind of gourd), half a dozen cider donuts, and small cider slush I paid $85. Worth it.

After picking our pumpkins we went home and the first thing I did was arrange them on the porch exactly how o wanted them. And then I put up more Halloween decorations. I need to get done extension cords for a few light up things we have, but so far I think it’s coming along nicely!

So that’s pretty much all I’ve done today. Although I think I’m going to make some pumpkin bread tonight! 😋 Originally I was going to do my long run today but pumpkin picking was more important.😂 So I’m going to do my long run tomorrow instead!

Anyway, that’s all for now! I just wanted to show off my pumpkins!
