I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it here, but cows are my favorite animal! I grew up on a small family farm where my grandpa and dad raised cattle. So I’ve kinda been around them my whole life.
So when I heard about this race I NEEDED to do it! And today I got to run the 5k (maybe next year I’ll do the half marathon?! ๐).
At packet pickup they made the parking situation sound confusing, but it was actually super easy! They didn’t have as much going on as far as vendors and what not as the Longview Half did (both races are held by the KC running company, so I feel like it’s fair to compare), but they did have a baby cow and goats!! And that’s 8 million times better in my book! Oh and the giant cow statue was pretty neat too!
The actual running thing was really fun too! The course wasn’t as flat as I was hoping for, but it really wasn’t bad! The wind made going out a little difficult but it sure helped coming back in! It was also a really cold wind, so I’m glad I wore a hoodie. I thought I’d get hot halfway through, but I was actually pretty comfortable the whole time.
There were a lot of people and we did have to weave all around eachother a bit, but I never felt too crowded. Haha and at the end I decided the two people in front of me weren’t fishing before me, so I put on a burst of speed and weaved my way through them. Haha my husband, who was taking pictures, was impressed with my moves and I made it to the finish line before them. ๐

Im super happy with my split times! Although I have no idea how I managed to keep such a steady pace during miles 2 & 3.
Oh, and my ribs didn’t hurt! Like, at all!!! Haha I was sooo worried about that, but I’m thinking they’re finally healed (or at least mostly healed)! And if that’s the case, regular training is going to resume next week.
Everyone who finished got a little cowbell, which I though was super spiffy!! They’re was also a CRAZY amount of food! They had fruit, bagels, donuts, cinnamon rolls, pizza, sandwiches from chikfila, etc. I wasn’t all that hungry though, so I just grabbed a bagel, banana, and a chocolate milk and then got my ass out of there. Haha it was a bit crazy with all the kids running around and people trying to grab as much food as possible. All in all I’m super happy with how everything went, and I can’t wait to race again!! ๐๐๐
Congratulations! Gotta have more cowbell!

Great job! Especially kicking it into gear to cross the finish, and that’s a great shot at the finish as well.
Coming back from an injury and having it behave for the entire race is a unique experience. A nice surprise and a relief.

Thank you!! Haha my husband is becoming quite the race photographer. Now we just need to get another DSLR instead of using our phones. ๐
Right?! I anticipated a lot of different things going into this race, but everything going well was not what I expected to happen. I’m thinking that’s literally NEVER going to happen again.
